James

I became friends with James soon after moving to Mississippi several years ago. When I had met him, he was 16 and the leader of a racist skinhead group. It was not too long after first meeting him that he had an intimate encounter with Jesus. His hate was replaced with love and patience, and he has come a long way in his relationship with God.

Rivalry : Brandon vs Pearl

The air was thick. The air was sticky. A sea of blue and gold glared at an ocean of red and white across a strip of green astro-turf. The mood was tense from a previous night's vandalism from a group of kids from Brandon High School. The demeanor of Pearl was solid; steadfast even. Faces of the Pirate football players were confident that they would win this game.
With Brandon scoring first, Pearl rallied from being down two touchdowns to tie them game and force it into overtime play.

Lunch at Biaggi's

My sister took me out to eat at Biaggi's earlier this week (which I much appreciated). Her fiancee, Keith, is working there at the moment and is an excellent waiter as well as pastor and friend. After gorging ourselves on the wonderful food, my sister and I walked around for a short time to walk off a few calories, and I took some pictures along the way of the surrounding area and fountain.

WO JV & 9th Grade Football

This morning my father and I took pictures of the JV and 9th Grade football teams. Triple digit temperature made for a fun hour and a half of shooting earlier this morning, but I guess the sweat helps boost our personal metabolism. However, sometimes the heat will have an extreme effect on these younger kids...

Tuesday I assisted my father in shooting White Oak's volleyball pictures for this current year. We shot the varsity first, then JV, and then 9th grade. It made for an eventful morning.

White Family Reunion

A photographer's job is never done... so while attending a family reunion out in the middle of nowhere in Texas with my mother, grandmother, uncle, and little brother, I brought my camera along to entertain me.

Potluck food, bingo for the kids, and technology being explained to the older generation all encompassed the party.

This was a side of the family which I had never met previously.

Growing Churches Conference

Friday and Saturday Crossgates Baptist Church hosted the Growing Churches Conference. The conference, a state wide assembly of baptist leadership of all kinds, included a spectrum of different informational material through small groups including saturating Mississippi with prayer, learning through Paul's weaknesses, using health practices as a tool to minister, children's ministry, youth ministry, adult ministry, pastoral ministry, the church and finances, being a good steward of spiritual gifts, etc.

Backyard Banana Peppers

Bored with the slowly progressing business of July, I took some pictures of Chrystal's plants around her house, including her small garden. As you can tell, some of the banana peppers have grown to good size (one of the good effects of the large amounts of rain we've been getting).

Fireworks from Street View

While in Pensacola, FL for the 4th of July weekend, I of course carried around my camera. I captured pictures of the beach, a veteran's park, and an unique street-view of the Pensacola fireworks show. (visit the Jim Peery Photography fan page to see all the pictures)

Studio Time w/ Renee

Renee Bynum invited me over to play around some in her studio Tuesday. I bought a bouquet from Kroger before coming, and we took some shots playing with lighting and background. It was a fun time and good fellowship! (for more pictures look up Jim Peery Photography on facebook)

Golden Sky

The afternoon of June 29th, Chrystal and I drove to Butler, Alabama to deliver graduation CD's and to see some of her family. On the return trip the entire sky and ground was lit with a golden bright glow as the entire cloud coverage shimmered as the sun fully set. I was not able to get pictures of it in it's full magnificence because I did not want to stop randomly on the side of the interstate but still captured a few pictures worth posting.

Baseball for the Win

I rolled into town Tuesday to take care of some personal things and assisted my father in photographing a championship all-star game that concluded the district tournament. White Oak and Kilgore were pitted against one another and it was a back and forth battle. After several innings White Oak scored the first run only for Kilgore to come back and tie. Several innings later, Kilgore took the lead by two runs. However, White Oak answered back scoring three runs more and were successful in holding off Kilgore from scoring further. Both teams played 'grade A' ball and both teams advance to a state tournament in Texarkana.

Joe & Miranda

My yesterday afternoon was for the most part spent with hanging out with Joe and Miranda, a couple that I am dear friends with from JAMHOP. We took advantage of a photo-shoot opportunity at Strawberry Patch Park near the Ridgeland/Madison area. Bright personalities + camera = fun times.

Rough Sailing

Yesterday was a slow office day, and not very surprising to me a harsh storm erupted. So what did I do? I decided to go to the Ross Barnett Reservoir to enjoy the storm while gazing out across the water and brought my camera along just for kicks. As seen above, I got some pictures of some boats being toed along with the Reservoir Patrol embarking on a mission to check to see if boaters were ok. I also managed to get some good shots of some of the local wildlife.

Shane and Cherish

This previous Saturday upon arriving in from Texas, I took advantage of the afternoon when hanging out with Shane and Cherish (dearly loved recently made friends.) We took shots around Brandon Park and even though the heat and humidity was bearing over us, it still was a lot of fun!

Making a Splash

What goes up, must come down... With the rain persisting with thunder and lightning quelled, I took some pictures of my little brother as he played outside with a drizzle in a puddle that had formed after countless hours of downpour. After short while, he pressured me to come and play with him. So I accepted the challenge and as a result I ended up soaked at the end of it all. as soon as I get back to Jackson I'm going to post the best group all together so that can be viewed. And thanks and credits to my father who took the pictures of me getting head deep in water!

The Rain Follows Me Wherever I Go

Still in Texas... Still attempting to get my car fixed... and it's Still RAINING. For some reason it seems to be following me around wherever I go. Good thing I like the rain. If it's still raining tomorrow I'll get out and get some good 'weather' pictures.

Engagement Pictures - Keith Dalton and Amber Peery

After all the stresses of vehicle trouble yesterday when getting into Texas, I was finally able to get my mind off of worry and focusing on taking engagements shots of one of my best friends and my dear sister. We went to downtown Longview for a short bit, encountered a train while there, and then bounced back to my parents' house where we took some pics inside and outside. All in all, a good day for shooting (even if it was a tad bit toasty and humid outside.)

Striking a Pose at Brandon Park

Not too long after the rain cleared up today my girlfriend suggested going out to take some pictures (probably hinting that the rain may have made me a little rusty.) We took some here and there and also ended up at Brandon Park and were able to get some really good shots. It is a really nice place to take pictures and would love to shoot there again.

Rain, oh rain... Why dost thou torment me?

The rain is my own worst enemy at the moment. Shoot after shoot I've had to postpone because of erratic weather. However, I am counting my blessings that the rain has kept temperature still rather cool for June. Hopefully the rain will not be a hindrance for too long.

In Texas this whole week helping my father take pictures of the White Oak Baseball little league teams and individuals. Its been fun, but it has certainly had its challenges, which i plan on presenting a blog about later on dealing with different possible hindrances that photographers face (i.e. lighting, flash, focus factors, etc...)

Francis Family Photoshoot

Ralph and Gayle Francis, visiting back home from India, were in town on vacation and desired to get some pictures with their grandchildren. It is always a challenge to get one energetic boy to stand still, much less two... but it was a very successful shoot.
